Cardiovascular CT & MR Scholar Observer Training Goals & Objectives
Introduction
The Cardiovascular CT and MR Training at The University of Florida (Gainesville), is designed for Cardiologists, Radiologists and fellows and residents interested in achieving advanced level knowledge of cardiac imaging for their practice in an academic (Gainesville) as well as private practice environment (Jacksonville). It can be used toward meeting requirements for ACC Level 1, 2, and 3 certification.
The training can be adjusted to the individual's specific needs. Typically training duration ranges from one month to three months and up to a year to participate in reading, reporting and data analysis activities and post-processing of cardiac CT and MR studies. We encourage a minimum of one to three consecutive months of training at a time.
It is the ideal course for physicians who require mentoring, interpretation over-reads and supervised experience in acquisition of CT coronary angiograms. This course will consist of the following.
- Interpretation and proctoring of more than 100 cases.
- Observation and participation of 50 live cases.
- Work daily with the CT staff and a Level III Instructor, providing a unique approach to protocols, interpretation and reporting.
- Onsite training is also available in a private advanced Imaging Center (Jacksonville), with availability of independent studies and tutoring.
The program has an array of opportunities and experiences for the participant to learn and practice all aspects of cardiac imaging. After this course the participant will have both the tools and confidence necessary to engage and practice cardiac imaging in a Hospital, Academic Center or Private Practice setting.
Level II and III Goals and Objectives
Level II and III Training is an individualized experience targeted to individuals who have successfully completed Level II training, are proficient and independent in all aspects of CT and are planning a leadership role at a CT center. Participants will be working and being supervised at the University of Florida, Medical Center (Gainesville) and/or a private advanced imaging center (Jacksonville) under the supervision of a Level III instructor. It is anticipated that participants will be present for the acquisition of all studies during their tenure and be responsible for processing and preparing a preliminary report to be proctored by an instructor.
Participants will have access to:
- In excess of 150 - 300 cases from the UF teaching file library including cardiac catheterization, echocardiography and nuclear images and clinical correlation.
- Participants will have 10 -20 hours of CT PHYSICS and structured clinical lectures and experience.
- Afternoon and evening proctoring sessions with also online and web-based tutoring and remote access to the center.
- Dedicated workstations.
NOTE: For LEVEL-III certification and upon completion of this course, to fully qualify for Level III, participants must also be board certified in Internal Medicine, FP, Cardiology, Radiology or Nuclear Medicine in the US or Abroad (see: SCCT.org suggested criteria as stated on June, 2007):
- Complete 40 hours of CME related credits and or lectures in general and or CCT
- Achieve peer recognition through one of the following:
- (Invited) Lectures for at least two or more CME courses on CCT
- Fellowship/residency teaching activities
- Three or more peer reviewed publications in the area of CCT (The possibility of producing supervised publications and do lectures for Level-III is offered by this program. For very dedicated and publishing experienced participants this can be accomplished for any training period of at least three but recommended six months of duration)
